New Idea: Hand Held Medical Information Storage Device

A new idea has emerged in health care: a small mobile device that stores health information and you can upload it online. These mobile devices are marketed to those who are busy, on the go and in need of an easier way to manage their health needs.

Users can use these hand-held gizmos for writing down symptoms, storing important health care data to give a health care provider, or even alerting themselves when it's time to take a pill, reported a Sunday New York Times article.

If you are asking our opinion as to whether these devices will stick around long, we doubt it. With the price of the gizmos being about $200, it seems a little expensive for what it is.

Although, there is a software program that exists that is compatible with mobile devices, such as the iPhone. That might prove handy. In addition, electronic medical info and health records will probably become more rampant as time moves on. There could possible be a need for these in the big picture.

If the devices were capable of managing health plans, it would seem more popular. It would be nice if they could remind you of monthly payments, or allow you to check to see if your plan covers a specific prescription or procedure, or even if you are looking for a provider in your network.
