Ways To Stop Kids From Spending Too Much

By Alix Montoya

So you're kids are trigger-happy children when it comes to swiping that plastic little card on buying stuff? The good news is, you're not alone. Everyday, there is an increasing number of parents who are getting really tired of credit cards pushed to their credit limits by kids set loose on a mall.

Believe it or not, your role as a parent is actually vital if you want to teach your child about handling money responsibly. There are a lot of lessons about being a more responsible and discerning consumer that only you can impart on your young ones and this is something that they would be able to use until they've grown up.

You have to show them that money is something that is earned with hard work. And what better way to let them see this than by letting them work for it. You can actually suggest jobs to your older kids and let them learn that money is earned and should not be taken for granted. Or you can help them start out their own business, perhaps from their hobbies through Texas craft shows.

Another idea is that you can ask your child to save some of the money he or she makes. You can suggest opening a bank account to them and tell them that they can save a portion of their money there. Explain to them interest rates and other things that they might see as advantageous when opening up a bank account.

Show them how to budget. Your household budget and how you handle it can teach your kids how to do it themselves. You can let them participate when you're allocating some funds and you can talk to them all about how keeping a budget and being prepared for anything can be a life saver when it comes to a pinch.

It is important that kids these days learn how hard it is to come by for some money. We have to take some time out of our own schedules and show them that money should be handled responsibly and not just thrown away at senseless shopping sprees every other day. - 15224
