Advice on Car Insurance

By Mike Mcray

Car insurance is important is you are driving a car no matter your age or experience. There are many add-ons and options available for different car insurance policies and you need to understand them when purchasing a policy. As a general rule you should try to purchase as much insurance as you can afford but every driver should at least be covered by the minimum amount of insurance needed for their state.

Each state will have a minimum amount of coverage and you should determine the guidelines for your state. You should determine the answers for the minimum coverage for accidents, types of additional insurance you may need and what exactly the minimum coverage will take care off. Some of the additional types of car insurance you can have are rental car reimbursement, property damage liability, personal injury protection, uninsured motorist bodily injury coverage, medical coverage, collision coverage, comprehensive coverage, and bodily injury liability.

The amount you pay for your car insurance will depend on the age of your vehicle, where you plan on driving the car the majority of the time and your driving history. There are many car insurance companies around so you should compare policy quotes to get the best deal. Comparison sites are available on the web and will give you a general idea of costs. If you can afford additional insurance then you should seriously consider buying more then just the minimum coverage.

The main thought is to understand what it is you are protecting, your car or your net worth. If you a re just protecting the car then you really only need comprehensive and collision insurance. If you have a large net worth to protect then you should probably buy all the insurance you possibly can.

If you want additional insurance it is relatively inexpensive to get a lot more coverage. If you want to save money on car insurance then you should look into driving an older car or a car that is less likely to be stolen. Passing a defensive driving course can also lower any points on your driving history that will in turn lower your car insurance price. If something should happen and you are not covered then you will be kicking yourself and wished you had coverage. It is much better to be safe than sorry. - 15224
