Certainly everyone in America today is aware that President Barack Obama is in the process of pushing through a new stimulus package to help boost the economy. The issue at hand, however, is exactly how this package will work and how it will affect Americans in their everyday lives.
Recently brought to our attention is the $100 billion dollars in this new stimulus package that is designated to the health care industry. The President has promised to improve the health care system in the United States and to closely monitor and regulate the health insurance industry.
The $100 billion that is designated for the health care system will go to increase benefits for the unemployed and to help improve the U.S. health care system, which in turn should also help boost the failing economy.
There is $87 billion designated to relieve the burden of the states to pay their share for Medicaid. COBRA, the probram which helps people continue their insurance after losing employment will also get $25 billion. For many years, the plan to convert from paper medical files to electronic medical files has been considered, but never funded. In the bill $17.9 billion has been set aside to address that. Under the plan, a provider who has 30% or more of their patients on Medicaid will receive a bonus of 85% of their costs. This is designed to encourage doctors to take on Medicaid patients they may have otherwise denied.
It is good to know that the stimulus package is expected to pass. In addition to the benefit of boosting the economy, many of our citizens who need the help the most will be able to receive benefits. However, it should not be overlooked that even though we all want the economy to improve, each of us needs to see some positive changes in our own lives as well. - 15224
